Rochester Orthopedic Laboratories Inc., Process
After seeing your physician who is recommending that you
be seen for an orthosis/prosthesis, you will need to contact our office
for an appointment. Your physician should have given
you a prescription for the orthosis/prosthesis. If he/she has not
given you a written prescription, one needs to be obtained before
an appointment can be made. At your first appointment, you should
bring your prescription, insurance information, any applicable
X-rays and medical reports.
At your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out paperwork.
We will take your prescription and make copies of
your insurance information for our files.
ORTHOTICS
Casting appointment
The practitioner will spend some time with you asking about your medical
history and what brought you to our facility. They will take a cast/measurements
of your affected limb, and will go over the general process with you.
At the end of your casting appointment, the office will generate a
quote for your appliance and find out what your insurance will cover.
If it is necessary to get authorization for the appliance, you will
not be given a return appointment. The office will call you when authorization
has been received. Please note that if your insurance requires authorization,
fabrication will not begin until we have authorization. If it is not
necessary to get authorization, you may be given a return appointment
for fitting.
Fitting appointment
Your practitioner will come in and fit the orthosis on you. It may
be necessary for adjustments to be made at this appointment in order
for the orthosis to fit and function appropriately. It may also be
necessary for multiple fitting appointments to occur in order to afford
you the best fitting appliance. At this appointment, you will be responsible
for your co-payment, unless prior financial arrangements
have been made. You will be asked to sign delivery paperwork stating
that you received the orthosis and will be given a checkup appointment
with your practitioner. If you need to be seen sooner then your scheduled checkup,
please call our office.
Checkup appointment
At this appointment, you should let your practitioner know of any
problems/issues that you have been having with your orthosis. After this checkup appointment, you may be given
another checkup appointment, or you may be asked to call for an appointment
if the need arises. Either way, please do not hesitate to call us
if any problems arise.
PROSTHETICS
Evaluation/shrinker/casting appointment
Depending on how recent your amputation, your first appointment with
us could be one of a few things. We may measure and fit you with shrinkers,
for example. Your first appointment could also be measurement or casting
for your prosthesis. You may also wish to schedule a discussion appointment
where you can ask questions and get information about prosthetic management.
Your practitioner will begin discussing your prosthetic goals with
you and will begin deciding on componentry. As soon as a plan is decided,
the office will generate a quote for your prosthesis. If it is necessary
to get authorization for the prosthesis, you will not be given a return
appointment. The office will call you when authorization has been
received. Please note that if your insurance requires authorization,
fabrication will not begin until we have authorization. If it is not
necessary to get authorization, you may be given a return appointment.
Fitting appointment
It may take several fitting appointments before your prosthesis is
ready to go home with you. At each appointment, the practitioner will
work with you to optimize the fit of your prosthesis, making adjustments
as needed.
Delivery appointment
This is the appointment where you will leave our facility with your
completed prosthesis. At this appointment, you will be responsible
for your co-payment, unless prior financial arrangements
have been made. You will be asked to sign delivery paperwork stating
that you received the prosthesis and will be given a checkup appointment
with your practitioner. If you need to be seen sooner then your scheduled checkup,
please call our office.
Checkup appointment
At this appointment, you should let your practitioner know of any
problems/issues that you have been having with your prosthesis. We will make every attempt
to get you seen sooner. You will most likely be asked to schedule
more checkups if this is your first prosthesis, or if you are changing
the style of your prosthesis.
